What Are Whole Foods and How Are They Good For You?: Dive Into Ingredients!

We pride ourselves on providing happy, healthy eaters like you with whole food ingredients. But what are whole food ingredients and why are they important for your diet? And why is it so important for us to eat close to the earth?

Below, we talk about a few of the key whole food ingredients you can find in NoBull veggie burgers and why shopping with us is the best way to take better care of your health and the health of the planet.

What are whole foods?

Whole foods can be anything from grains to fruits, and vegetables that have been minimally processed or not processed at all. This helps them to retain their nutrients and dietary super powers that make them delicious as well as healthy.

Essentially, think of foods on a label you understand right away instead of needing a whole label on their own or needing to Google what it is. When we talk about whole foods, we’re not talking about the store — though you can find NoBull veggie burgers in Whole Foods and other select stores and restaurants near you!

Whole Food Diet

A whole food diet consists of eating unprocessed or unrefined foods. Whole foods have little to no preservatives or additives, so think meals that are full of grains (wholegrain rice, quinoa, oats); legumes (lentils, beans, peas); nuts and seeds (peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds); and all fruits and vegetables!

Eating these healthy options daily or incorporating them into your favorite meals is essential for a happier, healthier gut, and better life overall.

Why are whole foods better for you?

We discussed this in a previous blog about “The Power of a Plant-Based Diet”! In case you missed it, the gist is you can eat more directly from the earth, which allows you to live more sustainably. NoBull uses whole and real ingredients to provide you with a better food source that is great for your body and the planet.

You can also get creative with how you cook and what you cook with, all while still getting enough protein. Several plant-based foods are packed with protein, like lentils and quinoa. NoBull has 10 grams of plant-based protein in each burger to keep you feeling strong and fueled.

Finally, whole foods are ideal for your health in the long term. You can reduce your risk for cardiovascular diseases and even decrease your chances of getting certain types of cancers. Types of Whole Food Ingredients We Use in Our Veggie Burgers

Why Lentils, Quinoa, and More Are Good For You!

Click into any of our veggie burgers and see the list of ingredients that’s full of whole foods. We pride ourselves on the fact you can read every label without a lengthy web-search. Why these whole foods are good for you, though, is another story altogether!

Lentils

Found in all of our NoBull veggie burger flavors, whether it’s our Original veggie burger or the Spicy Italian, lentils are high in protein and fiber and low in fat. They’re a healthy substitute for meat and packed with folate, iron, phosphorus, potassium, and fiber.

Lentils help to manage blood pressure and cholesterol. An excellent source of energising iron and vitamin B1 to help maintain a steady heartbeat, lentils are a big-name ingredient in every NoBull Burger.

Quinoa

You can find quinoa in our Savory Mushroom veggie burger. Quinoa is one of the few plant foods that contain sufficient amounts of all nine essential amino acids: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine. In case you were curious.

Gluten-free and high in protein, quinoa is also high in fiber as well as magnesium, B vitamins, iron, potassium, calcium, vitamin E, and a variety of antioxidants. Just to name a few. Quinoa is also better for you than white rice, given it has twice the protein and more fiber!

Onions

Our Sun-Dried Tomato veggie burger is accompanied by the sweet flavor of onion to make for a balanced diet. Onions contain antioxidants and compounds that fight inflammation. They can also reduce your cholesterol levels, which may help lower your risk of heart disease, because they reduce high blood pressure and protect against blood clots.

Onions are packed with nutrients that are super healthy for you, including flavonoids. Onions have a flavonoid called quercetin, that helps prevent cancer. Other flavonoids in onions are  linked to reducing the risk of Parkinson’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and stroke.

Spinach

Enjoy spinach in our Savory Italian veggie burger.

Spinach is a superfood, loaded with nutrients and low on calories. Leafy greens help with healthy hair, skin, and bones by providing plenty of minerals, vitamins, iron, and protein. Vitamin E and magnesium are prominent in spinach and are shown to boost your immune system.

This superfood encourages gut health and prevents you from contracting viruses or catching disease-carrying bacteria. It can also rid your body of toxins and help you start fresh, which is why it’s great in smoothies, salads, and veggie burgers, of course.

Sweet Potato

Last but certainly not least, enjoy the taste of sweet potato in our Madras Curry veggie burger. Sweet potatoes help with your brain and nervous system health because they’re rich in vitamin C and vitamin B6. They’re also shown to improve heart health due to potassium and magnesium.

They are nutrient dense and gorgeous to behold in a variety of colors. High in fiber and full of antioxidants, sweet potatoes work together with the other whole food ingredients we use in our veggie burgers to encourage a truly healthy gut.
